Synopsis
The scenario of the US Supreme Court handing over Long Island to those Native American tribes that once had sole jurisdiction over the island might seem unlikely. But into this battle to the death between two radically, violently opposing social systems – one that wants golf courses, gas guzzlers and the American Dream, and the other that rejects ‘progress’ and wants to return the island to its pre-colonial past – step two Native Americans: eco-journalist John Kellis and photographer Jessica Begay.
Kellis is summoned from India by a coded message from his grandfather, who is head of Mehtanawack’s Intertribal Council. Begay is summoned from a photo assignment in up-state New York. They are met at JFK Airport by some secret police, but evade them and wander the desperate dereliction of Brooklyn and Queens, deeply shocked by the transformation in the island.
